Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, respectful hands-on care to geriatric residents, helping them feel safe and valued
• Assist residents with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, feeding)
• Support mobility and transfers while following safe lifting and transfer protocols
• Monitor resident condition and promptly report changes to the nursing team
• Document care provided and resident observations accurately and timely
• Help maintain a clean, comfortable, and safe environment for residents
• Engage residents in social interaction and meaningful activities to support quality of life

Qualifications

• GNA certification (required) — you must be certified to work in this role
• Current CPR/BLS certification (preferred or required per facility policy)
• Ability to pass state-required background checks and health screenings
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a patient, compassionate attitude
• Ability to safely perform resident transfers and follow infection control practices
• Previous experience in geriatric care or long-term care is a plus but enthusiastic learners welcome

Education

• High school diploma or GED preferred
• GNA certification required

Knowledge & Skills

• Understanding of basic geriatric care principles and elder-focused needs
• Fundamental nursing assistant skills: vital signs, ADL assistance, resident observation
• Infection prevention, safe patient handling, and fall prevention practices
• Basic documentation skills and comfort with electronic or paper charting
• Teamwork, reliability, and the ability to communicate clearly with residents and staff
• Time management and the ability to prioritize resident needs during a shift
