Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, hands-on care to geriatric residents to support dignity and comfort
- Assist residents with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting
- Support safe mobility and transfers, using proper body mechanics and assistive devices
- Monitor residents for changes in condition and promptly report concerns to nursing staff
- Document care accurately and timely according to facility procedures
- Help create a warm, home-like environment through respectful and person-centered interactions
- Assist with meal service and ensure residents' dietary needs and preferences are communicated
Qualifications
- Current GNA certification (Geriatric Nursing Assistant) or equivalent credential
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Current CPR/BLS certification preferred or willingness to obtain
- Comfortable assisting with personal care and mobility; ability to stand and lift as required
- Pass a standard background check and meet facility immunization requirements
- Positive attitude, strong teamwork, and excellent communication with residents and families
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent
- GNA certification (required or preferred depending on facility)
Knowledge & Skills
- Understanding of geriatric care principles and elder-focused communication
- Basic infection control and safety practices
- Ability to observe and report changes in resident condition
- Good time management and the ability to prioritize resident needs
- Familiarity with documentation best practices; basic EMR comfort is a plus
- Compassionate interpersonal skills and patience with older adults
