Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality perioperative and postoperative nursing care for cardiovascular surgery patients
• Perform thorough patient assessments and communicate changes to the surgical team promptly
• Assist in the coordination of care across disciplines to ensure smooth surgical workflows
• Maintain sterile technique and adhere to surgical protocols to promote patient safety
• Monitor hemodynamic status and manage tubes, drains, and advanced monitoring devices
• Educate patients and families about procedures, recovery expectations, and discharge plans
• Document care clearly and accurately in the medical record to support continuity of care

Qualifications

• Active RN license in Texas or Compact RN license (must be valid for assignment)
• Minimum 1 year experience in cardiovascular surgery, CVOR, or a related acute surgical setting
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred
• Current ACLS and perioperative/CVOR orientation or competency preferred
• Strong critical thinking, assessment, and communication skills

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Cardiovascular surgical care and perioperative nursing principles
• Hemodynamic monitoring and interpretation
• IV therapy, central lines, and management of drains/tubes
• Sterile technique and operating room protocols
• Team-based communication and collaboration with surgeons, anesthesiology, and perfusion
• Patient education and discharge planning for cardiac surgical patients
