Shift Type: Rotating nights, 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM (12-hour night shifts). Typical schedule: 3 shifts/week (3 x 12-hour nights); schedule includes 2 weekends per 4-week schedule. Night shift / rotating schedule (details vary by rotation).

Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality, compassionate patient care on a 20-bed Neuro Med/Surg unit, prioritizing safety and comfort
• Monitor telemetry and cardiac rhythms, intervening and escalating as needed
• Start and manage IV access and use infusion devices such as IV pumps and PCA safely
• Perform wound care and maintain surgical drains with attention to detail
• Care for patients with nasogastric and chest tubes and manage associated needs
• Accurately document assessments, interventions and patient responses in Meditech
• Conduct bedside shift report and build therapeutic relationships with patients and families
• Collaborate with unit team members, techs and unit secretaries to coordinate patient care and flow

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license required
• Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg nursing experience (as listed)
• Current BLS certification required
• Comfortable with IV insertion and management of lines and drains
• Experience with telemetry monitoring and telemetry-equipped patients
• Familiarity with Meditech documentation preferred
• Willingness to work rotating night shifts and float to other areas per unit policy

Education

• Active RN license (required)

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong Med/Surg clinical knowledge including neuro patient needs
• Telemetry monitoring and interpretation skills
• Proficiency with IV pumps, feeding pumps, EKG machines and pulse oximetry
• Basic wound care and surgical drain maintenance
• Patient prioritization, multitasking and time management in a 6:1 ratio environment
• Excellent communication, bedside reporting and family-centered care approach
• Competence with electronic documentation (Meditech)
