Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and monitor medical-surgical patients, providing compassionate, evidence-based care
• Administer medications and IV therapies, including heparin drips, safely and accurately
• Manage telemetry monitoring and respond to cardiac/respiratory changes
• Provide advanced care for patients with respiratory, renal and gastrointestinal conditions
• Perform central venous catheter (CVC) and indwelling catheter management with attention to infection prevention
• Document patient care thoroughly and efficiently in Meditech to support continuity of care
• Collaborate with clinical coordinators, unit secretaries, PCTs and case management to optimize patient outcomes
• Contribute to a positive patient experience by using communication boards and patient-centered practices

Qualifications

• Active RN license (must be in good standing)
• BLS certification required
• Clinical experience in Medical-Surgical nursing, including telemetry care
• Comfortable managing CVCs, indwelling catheters and heparin drips
• Familiarity with Meditech or other electronic documentation systems preferred
• Able to work rotating weekends and participate in holiday rotation
• Team-oriented, compassionate communicator who collaborates well with multidisciplinary staff

Knowledge & Skills

• Medical-Surgical nursing best practices and protocols
• Telemetry monitoring and interpretation
• Medication administration and IV/heparin infusion management
• CVC care and indwelling catheter maintenance
• Care for respiratory, renal and gastrointestinal illnesses
• Patient documentation in Meditech
• Strong teamwork, communication and patient-centered bedside manner
• Familiarity with common unit equipment (IV pumps, SCDs, mobility aids)
