Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide full-scope cardiopulmonary services across the lifespan with compassion and clinical excellence
• Assess patients, develop and implement respiratory care plans, and document findings clearly
• Operate and manage adult, pediatric and infant ventilators safely and effectively
• Perform airway management, intubation assist, chest physiotherapy and patient suctioning
• Obtain and analyze arterial blood gases (ABGs) and support pulmonary function testing (PFTs)
• Administer and monitor respiratory therapy medications and delivery devices according to protocols
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses and interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes
• Educate patients and families on respiratory treatments and when to use interpreter services as needed
• Maintain and troubleshoot respiratory equipment and ensure infection-control practices

Qualifications

• Graduate of an AMA-accredited Respiratory Therapy program (AS degree) or equivalent approved by the NBRC
• NBRC credentials required — CRTT, CRT, RT or RRT accepted
• Minimum 1 year of clinical respiratory experience in a hospital setting
• BLS required; ACLS and PALS strongly encouraged
• Demonstrated ability to read/interpret physician orders, document therapies, and communicate with diverse patients
• Comfort with respiratory equipment, ventilators, ABG analysis and pulmonary function testing

Education

• AS in Respiratory Therapy from an AMA-accredited program (or equivalent approved by NBRC)

Knowledge & Skills

• Airway management and ventilator operation/management (adult, pediatric, infant)
• ABG procurement and analysis, PFT testing and chest physiotherapy
• Patient suctioning techniques and intubation assistance
• Familiarity with pulse oximeters, suction equipment, O2 concentrators and nebulizers
• Experience with ISTAT ABG analyzers, EKG/holter/event monitors and treadmill/stress testing equipment
• Strong documentation skills, clinical reasoning and basic medical math
• Ability to use interpreter services and communicate clearly with patients of diverse backgrounds
