Roles & Responsibilities

• Design and lead meaningful recreational therapy programs tailored to mental health populations
• Assess participant needs and create individualized intervention plans that promote recovery
• Facilitate group and individual therapy sessions that build social, leisure, and coping skills
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including OT and mental health staff to coordinate care
• Document progress thoroughly and communicate outcomes to the treatment team
• Ensure a safe, therapeutic environment and model best practices in behavior management

Qualifications

• Current certification or licensure in Recreational Therapy (or working toward certification) preferred
• Experience working in mental health or correctional settings is highly valued
• Strong group facilitation skills and the ability to engage diverse participants
• Basic life support (BLS/CPR) certification preferred or willingness to obtain
• Ability to pass required background checks and facility-specific screenings
• Excellent communication and documentation skills

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Recreational Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation, or related field preferred; relevant experience considered

Knowledge & Skills

• Knowledge of therapeutic recreation modalities and mental health interventions
• Skill in assessing functional and leisure needs and measuring outcomes
• Comfort leading both group-based and individual activities
• Familiarity with safety and behavior management protocols
• Collaboration skills for working within interdisciplinary treatment teams
