Roles & Responsibilities

• Deliver compassionate, evidence-based nursing care for oncology and telemetry patients on a 32-bed unit with a 1:4 ratio
• Interpret telemetry and EKG strips, monitor cardiac rhythms, and respond to changes in patient status
• Perform competency-based procedures such as Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes after successful SIMs Lab completion
• Serve as charge or resource RN when assigned, coordinating patient flow and supporting the care team
• Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary partners including RT, pharmacy, IV SWAT, and hospitalists to optimize patient outcomes
• Provide safe, patient-centered care for a mix of oncology and med-surg patients, prioritizing sterile technique and infection control
• Participate in unit orientation and ongoing education (including lifts, restraints, and wound care training)
• Float to other MedSurg/Tele units as needed while maintaining unit standards and documentation in Cerner

Qualifications

• Active RN license (eligible to work in Arizona)
• BLS and ACLS required prior to start
• Minimum 2 years of recent nursing experience (telemetry or oncology experience strongly preferred)
• Chemo certification is a strong plus
• Comfortable with and competent in Foley catheter insertion and central line care (SIMs Lab required and pass/fail)
• Ability to interpret EKGs and manage telemetry patients
• Willingness to float within MedSurg/Tele units and work rotating weekends and holiday rotations
• Must pass the DYS exam prior to accepting assignment (two attempts allowed), pass day 1 orientation exam, and meet hospital fit/test requirements
• Travel team specifics: must have own vehicle, adhere to facility appearance policies (natural hair color, no facial piercings; men clean-shaven for fit test)

Education

• BSN preferred or as indicated by facility (BSN requirement noted on posting)
• Active RN license in good standing

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong oncology nursing knowledge and telemetry monitoring skills
• Proficiency with Cerner electronic medical record
• EKG interpretation and rhythm assessment
• Skill in Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes (competency demonstrated in SIMs Lab)
• Familiarity with Bipap/CPAP management and basic ventilatory support
• IV insertion skills; ability to collaborate with IV SWAT for difficult sticks
• Wound care, safe patient handling/lifting, and managing restraints according to policy
• Charge nurse capabilities including delegation, light patient assignment, and coordination
