Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide safe, high-quality perioperative nursing care in the OR, including neurosurgery cases (3's and 4's)
• Prepare and maintain the sterile field and surgical suite, ensuring all instruments and equipment are ready
• Assist surgeons and scrub as needed across multiple service lines — be adaptable and confident across cases
• Document thoroughly and accurately in EPIC to maintain continuity of care and compliance
• Participate in orientation, pass a skills validation exam, and help mentor newer staff
• Respond to floating assignments when needed (Pre/Post op, PACU if trained, ER for trauma cases)
• Collaborate with the charge nurse, OR techs, and multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient safety and flow

Qualifications

• Active RN license (eligible to practice in the state of Nebraska)
• Minimum 2 years of acute care/OR nursing experience preferred
• Demonstrated neurosurgery experience (3's and 4's) — must be comfortable with neuro cases
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Driver's license required at time of submittal (used to confirm radius eligibility)
• Willingness to pass an open-book skills exam during orientation (90% required)
• Ability to work 5 days/week and participate in on-call, weekend, and holiday rotations
• Must NOT be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with CommonSpirit facilities (including CHI/Dignity)

Education

• Active RN license required
• BSN not required (BSN field marked as not required)

Knowledge & Skills

• Perioperative care and surgical instrumentation across multiple service lines
• Proficiency with EPIC charting and acute-care documentation
• Experience with neurosurgery, ENT, ortho, GYN, general surgery, and DaVinci robotics
• Strong patient safety mindset, teamwork, and ability to adapt to varied daily surgical schedules
• PACU, Pre-Op and Post-Op workflows; trauma/ER experience a plus
• Excellent communication, critical thinking, and intraoperative anticipation
