Roles & Responsibilities

• Triage and assess patients quickly and accurately to prioritize care in a busy emergency setting
• Deliver high-quality nursing care including medication administration, IV management, and wound care
• Closely monitor and document patient status and responses to treatment in the EMR
• Collaborate with physicians, techs, and support staff to coordinate timely patient care
• Provide clear, compassionate patient and family education during stressful moments
• Respond effectively to emergency codes and assist with resuscitation and stabilizing interventions
• Advocate for patient safety and contribute to continual process improvements in the ED
• Maintain accurate shift handoffs to ensure continuity of care

Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse license in Iowa or compact nursing license as applicable
• BLS certification required; ACLS preferred or must obtain per facility policy
• Previous Emergency Room experience preferred; confident with high-acuity patients
• Comfortable with 12-hour day shifts and working weekend schedules
• Strong critical thinking, communication, and teamwork skills

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Triage and emergency assessment skills
• IV insertion and medication administration proficiency
• Familiarity with ED workflows and rapid decision-making
• Effective documentation in electronic medical records
• Ability to manage multiple high-acuity patients concurrently
• Clear communication with multidisciplinary care teams
• Basic wound care and splinting knowledge
• Calm performance under pressure and strong situational awareness
