Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide focused 1:1 labor support and evidence-based obstetric nursing care
• Monitor, interpret, and document electronic fetal heart rate tracings using NICHD terminology
• Deliver total peri-operative nursing care for C-section patients from recovery to discharge
• Perform NSTs (non-stress tests) and care for high-risk maternal and neonatal patients, stabilizing and arranging transfers as needed
• Respond calmly and effectively to emergencies including fetal distress and trauma
• Educate and coach patients and families on postpartum care, breastfeeding, and newborn care
• Delegate and supervise CNA/tech staff and coordinate multidisciplinary patient care
• Maintain accurate documentation, complete nursing assessments, and follow ACOG standards of care

Qualifications

• Current, full, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license (Alaska or other U.S. state). Direct hire must have applied for Alaska license before start date; agency staff must have an active Alaska license
• BLS required on hire; ACLS, PALS, and NRP required on hire or obtained within 6 months as specified
• One year of clinical nursing experience preferred; prior OB/L&D experience preferred
• Ability to take call and respond to emergencies, work weekends and holidays as scheduled
• Strong communication, delegation, and leadership abilities

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Active RN license required (see qualifications for Alaska licensing details)

Knowledge & Skills

• Labor and delivery clinical skills including fetal heart monitoring and NICHD tracing interpretation
• Peri-operative nursing and post C-section patient care
• Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP), ACLS, PALS, and BLS competency
• Medication administration, infection control, and patient safety practices
• Thorough documentation and use of nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation)
• Triage, patient education, breastfeeding support, and triage phone assessments
• Ability to supervise staff, lead a shift, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams
