Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, high-quality postoperative orthopedic nursing care for adult patients
• Perform wound care tasks including dressing changes, wound VAC maintenance and removal
• Manage urinary catheters and NG tubes with attention to infection prevention and patient comfort
• Remove sutures and staples when appropriate, ensuring proper documentation and patient education
• Document clinical care accurately in the Cerner EMR and coordinate handoffs with the interdisciplinary team
• Monitor patient status, escalate changes promptly, and maintain safe patient ratios on night shift
• Support mobility and safe transfers using equipment like lifts, Sara Stedy and walkers to promote recovery
• Coach patients and families on post-op care, discharge instructions, and follow-up planning

Qualifications

• Active NC Registered Nurse license (required)
• BLS certification (required)
• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience (as listed)
• Orthopedics and hospital med-surg experience preferred
• Familiarity with Cerner EMR preferred
• Comfort with common ortho equipment and assistive devices

Knowledge & Skills

• Cerner electronic medical record experience
• Wound care and wound VAC maintenance
• Dressing changes, suture and staple removal
• Foley catheter and NG tube care
• Orthopedic post-op nursing principles and mobility assistance
• Ability to work effectively on night shift and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team
