Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform generalist clinical laboratory testing with accuracy and attention to detail, including blood bank procedures
• Draw and process patient specimens through phlebotomy and proper labeling techniques
• Prepare and read gram stains and reliably interpret microscopic results
• Manage night lab operations as the on-site technologist after training, including triage of STAT orders
• Maintain quality control, follow established procedures, and complete required documentation in the lab information system
• Troubleshoot instrumentation issues and escalate appropriately to ensure continuous service
• Complete required competency exams and skills checklists to demonstrate and maintain proficiency

Qualifications

• DCI/BVP certification (required)
• Experience as a generalist laboratorian with demonstrated blood bank and phlebotomy skills
• Comfort working independently overnight and making sound decisions in a low-staff environment
• Successful completion of Prime Core Competencies Exam, Prime Skills Checklist, and Prime Specialty Exam as required
• Ability to pass standard health requirements and screenings (COVID-19 vaccine, MMR, TB testing, drug screen, fit test, Hep B, influenza, varicella, Tdap)
• Strong attention to detail, good communication skills, and professional bedside manner

Knowledge & Skills

• Blood bank procedures and transfusion safety
• Phlebotomy and specimen handling best practices
• Gram stain preparation and microscopic interpretation
• Generalist laboratory testing across clinical chemistry/hematology/microbiology
• Laboratory information system (LIS) documentation and result entry
• Quality control, infection control, and safety procedures
• Independent problem solving and prioritization during overnight shifts
