Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess patients promptly and thoroughly using the nursing process to ensure safe, effective care
• Provide direct patient care in the Emergency Department and telemetry environments
• Monitor telemetry and interpret rhythms, responding quickly to changes in patient condition
• Communicate clinical changes and diagnostic results clearly and promptly to physicians
• Educate patients and families about diagnoses, treatments, and follow-up care
• Adhere to EMTALA regulations and report suspected child/adult abuse to appropriate agencies
• Maintain patient privacy, confidentiality, and professional nursing standards at all times
• Guide and support other nursing personnel and assist in maintaining competency standards

Qualifications

• Current, valid state Registered Nurse (RN) license required
• Current BLS certificate required upon hire and to be maintained
• Current ACLS certificate required within 30 days of hire and to be maintained
• Current PALS certificate and/or ENPC required within 30 days of hire and to be maintained
• Basic arrhythmia interpretation certification required within 30 days of hire
• Minimum of 1 year experience as a staff RN in an acute care hospital setting; ER experience preferred
• Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) preferred
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Education

• Current RN licensure (required)
• BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong patient assessment and triage skills in high-acuity settings
• Telemetry monitoring and basic arrhythmia interpretation
• Emergency nursing procedures and rapid response to patient deterioration
• Familiarity with EMTALA compliance and reporting requirements
• Excellent communication with physicians, multidisciplinary teams, patients, and families
• Patient teaching and education skills to support discharge and follow-up
• Experience with NIHSS, DCI/BVP protocols, and ED documentation expectations
