Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide evidence-based maternal and newborn nursing care during the postpartum period
• Perform fetal monitoring and assess maternal/fetal status to ensure safe outcomes
• Conduct postpartum and vaginal examinations as appropriate and communicate findings clearly
• Document patient care accurately and efficiently using EPIC charting
• Collaborate with obstetricians, midwives, and interdisciplinary team members for coordinated care
• Educate new parents on newborn care, breastfeeding support, and postpartum recovery
• Maintain compliance with infection control and vaccination requirements for patient safety

Qualifications

• Current and valid RN license (required)
• BLS, ACLS, and NRP certifications (required)
• AWHONN or Fetal Heart Monitoring certification preferred
• Experience in maternal/newborn care, postpartum care, and vaginal examination experience preferred
• Comfortable and experienced with EPIC charting
• COVID-19 vaccination required per facility policy

Education

• BSN degree preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong knowledge of maternal/newborn physiology and postpartum assessment
• Proficiency in fetal monitoring interpretation and response
• Skilled in EPIC electronic health record documentation
• Ability to perform and interpret vaginal examinations in the postpartum context
• Excellent patient education and communication skills for new parents
• Competence in emergency response for maternal/newborn situations
