Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality adult cardiothoracic surgical care, including pre-, intra- and post-operative management
• Perform required procedures such as CABG, valve repair/replacement, tube thoracostomy, pericardial window, thoracotomy, decortication and mediastinal surgery
• Take night call during assigned coverage weeks and respond to urgent inpatient needs
• Manage postoperative care and daily rounding for surgical patients
• Collaborate closely with anesthesia, ICU, nursing and ancillary teams to ensure excellent patient outcomes
• Document clinical care clearly and efficiently in Epic

Qualifications

• Experience in adult cardiac surgery and general thoracic surgery with demonstrated competence in CABG and heart valve repair/replacement
• Proven ability to perform thoracotomy procedures (including lung biopsy, lung resection, pneumonectomy) and thoracotomy decortication
• Comfort with tube thoracostomy, pericardial window, and mediastinal surgery
• Proficiency with Epic electronic medical record
• Willingness to cover night call during assigned weekday coverage blocks; no weekend call required
• Ability to complete credentialing (timeline noted as ~90 days)

Education

• MD or DO with appropriate postgraduate training in cardiothoracic surgery (fellowship training typical for this role)

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong knowledge of adult cardiothoracic surgical techniques and perioperative care
• Ability to manage complex postoperative patients in a Level I trauma center setting
• Operating room experience with dedicated cardiovascular OR workflows
• Effective communication and teamwork skills across multidisciplinary teams
• Clinical documentation and order entry skills within Epic
