Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive echocardiogram studies including transthoracic 2D, M-Mode, color-flow Doppler, transesophageal, exercise stress and pharmacologic echocardiography with accuracy and care
• Conduct other cardiac diagnostic testing as assigned such as EKGs, Holter preparation/monitoring/analysis, and cardiac stress tests
• Operate and maintain diagnostic equipment including echocardiographs, cardiac stress systems, electrocardiographs and Holter monitors and ensure accurate computer analysis
• Use hospital information systems to schedule studies, process results and ensure correct charging and documentation
• Apply infection control practices and aseptic techniques to disinfect equipment and protect patient safety
• Provide age-specific care for patients across the lifespan, with particular attention to neonatal and pediatric populations
• Serve as a professional resource to physicians, nurses and other hospital staff and support students through preceptorship and clinical guidance

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS/RDCS or equivalent) required
• Successful completion of an echocardiography certification program and/or minimum of 2 years hands-on echocardiography experience
• Preferred: Cardiovascular Sonography certificate and extensive hospital-based experience
• Preferred: Experience with pediatric and neonatal echocardiography
• Comfort working day or night shifts in a clinical/hospital environment

Education

• Required: High School Diploma or GED
• Required credential: Registered Cardiac Sonographer
• Preferred: Certificate program in Cardiovascular Sonography

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficient in transthoracic echocardiography (2D, M-Mode)
• Experienced with color-flow Doppler and transesophageal echocardiography
• Skilled in exercise stress and pharmacological echocardiography
• Comfortable performing and interpreting EKGs, Holter monitoring and cardiac stress testing
• Familiar with hospital information systems for scheduling and charging
• Strong infection control and equipment disinfection knowledge
• Ability to provide age-specific patient care including neonatal and pediatric populations
• Experience with preceptorship and clinical teaching
