Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide age-specific preventive and periodontal hygiene care for patients across the lifespan
• Perform oral examinations, periodontal assessments, coronal polishing, topical fluoride application, and dental radiography
• Measure and record periodontal pocket depths and vital signs including pulse, blood pressure, and temperature
• Manage patient scheduling to ensure efficient, compassionate care
• Coordinate and conduct community prevention activities such as sealant clinics, Head Start clinics, and health fairs
• Maintain and sterilize hygienist instruments and supplies to meet infection control standards
• Document patient care accurately and communicate treatment plans and home care instructions to patients and caregivers
• Participate in quality and professional development activities to maintain clinical competency and high-risk competency

Qualifications

• Graduate of a two-year Dental Hygiene Program (required)
• Bachelor's degree preferred
• Pass the National Board Examination for Dental Hygienists
• Active Dental Hygiene License in Alaska or another U.S. state (Alaska license preferred)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 45 days of start and must be maintained
• Clinical Competency assessment required within 3 months of hire and every 3 years
• High Risk Competency required within 3 months of hire and annually
• High school diploma or GED

Education

• Graduate of a two-year Dental Hygiene Program (required)
• Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Infection control techniques and sterilization procedures
• Principles of dental and periodontal disease and appropriate therapies
• Clinical hygiene skills including periodontal therapy and coronal polishing
• Dental radiography (X-ray) skills
• Strong oral and written communication
• Accurate clinical judgment and good manual dexterity
• Ability to provide patient education and preventive counseling
• Schedule management and clinic workflow coordination
