Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform accurate echocardiogram studies ordered by physicians, including transthoracic 2-D, M-Mode, color-flow Doppler, transesophageal, exercise and pharmacologic stress echocardiography
• Execute other cardiac diagnostic studies such as EKGs, Holter monitoring (prep, monitoring and analysis) and cardiac stress tests with precision
• Operate and maintain diagnostic cardiac equipment (echocardiographs, stress systems, electrocardiographs, Holter monitors) to deliver high-quality diagnostic data
• Manage scheduling, processing and correct charging for studies within hospital information systems
• Apply and model infection control practices and aseptic technique, including proper equipment disinfection
• Provide preceptorship and clinical guidance to students from contracted colleges and universities
• Deliver age-specific cardiac diagnostic care, including neonatal and pediatric patients, following established guidelines
• Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of practice to support patient care and department needs

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) required
• Successful completion of a certification program and/or minimum of 2 years hands-on echocardiography experience
• Preferred: extensive hospital echocardiography experience and pediatric/neonatal echocardiography experience
• Preferred: Certificate in Cardiovascular Sonography
• Experience with hospital information systems for scheduling and charging is a plus
• Ability to precept and mentor students effectively

Education

• High School Diploma or GED (required)
• Certificate Program in Cardiovascular Sonography (preferred)

Knowledge & Skills

• Transthoracic echocardiography (2-D)

• Exercise and pharmacologic stress echocardiography
• EKG acquisition and interpretation basics
• Holter monitoring setup, monitoring and analysis

• Proficiency with diagnostic cardiac equipment and computer analysis tools
• Infection control and aseptic technique
• Age-specific patient care, including neonatal and pediatric populations
• Scheduling and correct charging within hospital information systems
• Preceptorship and clinical teaching skills
