Roles & Responsibilities

Audit medical records to ensure accurate CPT and ICD-10 coding and that codes are supported by clinical documentation
Compile clear, actionable audit reports with analysis and findings from record reviews
Maintain audit logs and ensure annual audits of established provider records are completed
Communicate findings with providers and suggest documentation improvements in both verbal and written formats
Design and implement documentation support tools in partnership with the Revenue Cycle Manager
Develop and deliver formal and informal education for providers, coders, and charge entry staff
Train new revenue cycle team members on coding and documentation best practices
Assist the Revenue Cycle Manager with evaluation of coding activities and performance reviews as needed
Perform coding tasks as warranted and take on other duties within the scope of the role

Qualifications

Certified Professional Coder (CPC) — required
Associate degree in a related field — required
Minimum five (5) years of inpatient and outpatient coding and auditing experience — required
Experience coding professional claims in a medical office-based setting — required
Experience coding multiple specialties and multi-specialty group practice experience — preferred
Strong experience interacting with physicians to provide feedback and education
Experience with charge entry and general revenue cycle support — a plus

Education

Associate Degree in a related field (required)
Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (preferred)

Knowledge & Skills

Proficient in CPT coding and ICD-10
Medical record auditing and clinical documentation validation
Comfortable reviewing physician and midlevel provider documentation
Skilled at compiling audit reports and analyzing coding trends
Provider education and training delivery
Familiarity with revenue cycle processes and charge entry workflows
Ability to meet productivity targets for record audits and manage audit logs
