Roles & Responsibilities
- Coordinate and deliver comprehensive nursing care for patients of all ages in emergency and acute care settings
- Make independent clinical decisions during shifts and consult leadership for complex situations
- Supervise and delegate tasks to CNAs and techs, ensuring safe, high-quality patient care
- Develop, implement, and evaluate patient care plans and department policies
- Maintain accurate, timely nursing documentation and transcribe physician orders into the electronic medical record
- Respond to emergencies calmly, provide appropriate interventions, and notify physicians when needed
- Monitor and maintain medication, supply, and equipment levels; report needs to leadership
- Participate in staff training, meetings, and continuous quality improvement activities
Qualifications
- Current full, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in Alaska or another U.S. state (Direct hire must have applied for Alaska license before start date; agency staff must have active Alaska license)
- Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required or must be obtained within 6 months
- Clinical Competency and High Risk Competency required within 3 months of hire and maintained per policy
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) preferred and required for ED nurses
- Able to perform independent clinical decision-making, supervise staff, and handle emergent situations
- No prior experience required, though acute care, emergency department, or long-term care experience is preferred
Education
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (BSN, ADN, or Diploma in Nursing)
- High school diploma or equivalent required
Knowledge & Skills
- Solid knowledge of nursing and medical practices, infection control, and patient safety
- Skilled in patient assessment, medication administration, and emergency care
- Strong documentation skills and familiarity with electronic medical records
- Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams and supervise support staff
- Good communication, critical thinking, and crisis management abilities
- Familiarity with laws, regulations, and standards governing hospital and long-term care settings
