Roles & Responsibilities
- Coordinate and deliver safe, therapeutic nursing care for long-term care residents
- Perform thorough nursing assessments and document findings in the EHR
- Administer medications and treatments accurately and monitor resident responses
- Lead and supervise CNA/Tech and LPN staff on shift, ensuring quality resident care
- Develop and implement individualized care plans and update them based on reassessments
- Provide patient and family education, discharge planning, and ongoing support
- Respond calmly and effectively to emergencies and make sound clinical judgments
- Participate in unit meetings, staff education, and competencies to drive continuous improvement
Qualifications
- Current, full, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in Alaska or another U.S. state
- Agency staff must have an active Alaska license; direct hire must have applied for Alaska license before start date
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Clinical Competency assessment within 3 months of hire and every three years
- High Risk Competency within 3 months of hire and annually thereafter
- Minimum 1-2 years of nursing experience preferred
- Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs and perform physical aspects of resident care
- Willingness to serve as charge nurse when needed
Education
- Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing: BSN, Associate Degree in Nursing, or Diploma in Nursing
- High school diploma or equivalent required
Knowledge & Skills
- Proficient in patient assessment, care planning, medication administration, and documentation
- Knowledgeable about infection control and nursing process across the lifespan
- Skilled in emergency response, delegation, and leadership of a clinical team
- Familiarity with pharmaceuticals, AED operation, and use of basic/specialized medical equipment
- Comfortable using Electronic Health Records for charting and shift reporting
- Strong oral and written communication and teaching skills with residents, families, and staff
