Roles & Responsibilities

• Coordinate and deliver high-quality nursing care across the continuum for patients of all ages
• Perform thorough assessments, develop and implement individualized care plans, and evaluate patient progress
• Administer medications and treatments accurately while documenting care in accordance with policy
• Respond calmly and effectively in emergencies and initiate life-saving interventions when needed
• Delegate and supervise CNAs/techs, ensuring safe and effective team-based care
• Communicate with patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members to support patient-centered care
• Educate patients and families about diagnoses, treatments, and discharge plans to promote recovery and self-care
• Participate in unit meetings, quality improvement, and ongoing competency maintenance

Qualifications

• Current, full, unrestricted Registered Nursing license in Alaska or another U.S. state required (Direct hire must have applied for Alaska license before start date; agency staff must have an active Alaska license)
• BLS required at hire
• ACLS and PALS required within 6 months of hire
• TNCC required for Emergency Department nurses
• Clinical Competency required within 3 months of hire and every three years
• High Risk Competency required within 3 months of hire and annually
• High school diploma or equivalent required
• One year of clinical nursing experience preferred; prior specialty or ED experience preferred

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Current, full, unrestricted Registered Nursing license in Alaska or another U.S. state required

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong patient assessment, critical thinking, and clinical decision-making
• Ability to recognize and respond to emergent, critically ill patients
• Medication knowledge and safe administration practices
• Competency with basic and specialty medical equipment (defibrillator, monitors, ventilators, chest tube setup as applicable)
• Skilled documentation and charting
• Effective verbal and written communication and teamwork
• Leadership, delegation, and the ability to orient and mentor staff and travelers
