Roles & Responsibilities
- Perform initial triage and full patient assessments for urgent care visits
- Provide telephone triage, patient education, and self-care guidance
- Administer medications (oral, topical, IM, SQ, intradermal, IV push/infusion) safely and accurately
- Initiate, maintain, monitor, and discontinue IV therapy; add secondary IV therapies as needed
- Document assessments, nursing interventions, and patient education in the EMR
- Coordinate patient referrals and track outcomes to ensure continuity of care
- Maintain infection control and a safe, well-stocked clinical environment
- Participate in clinical competency programs and department improvement efforts
- Serve as vaccine coordinator or secondary vaccine coordinator as assigned
- Respond professionally and calmly during urgent or emergent situations
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and qualified to take the NCLEX
- Current full, unrestricted Registered Nursing license in Alaska or another U.S. state required (Direct hire must have applied for an Alaska license before start; agency staff must hold an active Alaska license)
- Minimum 2 years of general nursing experience with at least 1 year in ambulatory or urgent care settings
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred (AHA)
- Clinical Competency required within 3 months of hire and every three years
- High Risk Competency required within 3 months of hire and annually
- High school diploma or equivalent required
Education
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (eligible to take NCLEX)
- High school diploma or equivalent
Knowledge & Skills
- Skilled in triage, patient assessment, and prioritization
- Strong clinical judgment and critical thinking in urgent care workflows
- Proficient with medication administration and IV therapy procedures
- Competent charting and clear oral/written communication
- Experience with EMR systems and accurate data recording
- Knowledge of infection control principles and clinic protocols
- Ability to perform life-saving procedures and remain calm under pressure
- Excellent multi-tasking, time management, and customer-service orientation
