Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, evidence-based nursing care to newborns in the NICU and nursery
• Perform thorough newborn assessments, monitor vital signs, and respond promptly to changes
• Initiate neonatal resuscitation and stabilization per NRP guidelines when needed
• Administer medications, IV therapy, and routine treatments safely and accurately
• Collaborate with neonatologists, physicians, and multidisciplinary staff to develop care plans
• Educate and support families on newborn care, feeding, and discharge planning
• Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the medical record and communicate handoffs clearly
• Adhere to infection control standards and hospital policies to ensure patient safety

Qualifications

• Current RN license (Louisiana or compact state where applicable)
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) required
• ACLS and BLS certifications required
• Previous experience in NICU or newborn nursery preferred
• Strong clinical assessment skills and comfort with neonatal equipment
• Reliable, professional, and able to work independently on night shift

Knowledge & Skills

• Neonatal assessment, stabilization, and ongoing monitoring
• Familiarity with neonatal resuscitation protocols (NRP)
• Ability to manage IV lines, meds, and neonatal thermoregulation
• Proficient documentation and electronic medical record use
• Excellent communication with families and multidisciplinary teams
• Calm decision-making in high-acuity situations
