Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, hands-on care to patients on the mental health unit at HDSP
• Assist with activities of daily living—bathing, dressing, grooming and feeding—with respect and dignity
• Observe, document, and promptly report changes in patient behavior or condition
• Support de-escalation techniques and maintain a safe environment for patients and staff
• Follow facility policies and infection-control procedures to protect everyone’s health
• Collaborate with nurses and the interdisciplinary team to support patient treatment plans

Qualifications

• Active CNA certification in California (required)
• Experience in mental health or behavioral health settings preferred
• Comfortable working the posted schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM
• Willingness to complete a two-week orientation and pass facility screenings/background checks
• Strong communication skills and a team-first attitude

Education

• High school diploma or GED required; CNA certification required

Knowledge & Skills

• Skilled in personal care and assistance with ADLs
• Familiarity with mental health best practices and de-escalation strategies
• Basic vital signs monitoring and observation skills
• Accurate documentation and attention to detail
• Awareness of infection control and safety protocols in a correctional healthcare setting
