Roles & Responsibilities
- Administer and manage acute hemodialysis treatments safely and effectively for critically ill patients
- Monitor patient response to dialysis and intervene for changes in clinical status
- Perform EKG competency tasks and interpret findings as part of ongoing patient assessment
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams — nephrology, ICU/telemetry staff, and support services — to optimize care
- Maintain clear, timely documentation and communicate care plans during handoffs
- Ensure compliance with unit policies, infection control practices, and dialysis protocols
- Provide patient and family education about dialysis procedures, goals of care, and safety
- Respond quickly and professionally to emergencies and changes in patient condition
Qualifications
- Active, unencumbered Hawaii RN license required
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program; BSN preferred
- Current BLS/HCP and ACLS required at time of application
- Specialty certifications (CNN, CDN) highly desired
- Must pass EKG exam with 80% or greater during orientation
- Two or more years of full-time acute hemodialysis (HD) experience prior to any travel assignments required
- One or more years of full-time Telemetry or ICU RN experience preferred
- Experience in large medical centers (500+ beds, Level 1 Trauma Center) highly preferred
Education
- Graduate of accredited nursing program (BSN preferred)
Knowledge & Skills
- Acute hemodialysis procedures and machine operation
- Telemetry and ICU patient monitoring and assessment
- EKG interpretation and cardiac rhythm recognition
- Strong critical thinking and rapid decision-making in high-acuity settings
- Excellent communication and interdisciplinary collaboration
- Thorough documentation and familiarity with clinical compliance requirements
- Infection control, patient safety, and emergency response skills
