Shift Type: Night, 3x12-hour shifts per week, 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM (Night). Specific days vary based on departmental scheduling and self-schedule requests; orientation: Week 1 Mon-Fri dayshift, Week 2 36 hours on-unit with a preceptor. Rotating 12D/N option may be available depending on department needs; shift assignments reviewed every 4-week scheduling period.

Roles & Responsibilities
- Monitor and interpret telemetry and dysrhythmias to keep high-acuity PCU patients safe and stable
- Administer and manage IVs, central lines, PICCs, blood products, and PCA pumps with careful attention to protocols
- Provide high-acuity progressive care nursing — manage HFNC, BiPAP/CPAP, tracheostomy and chest tube care when needed
- Perform focused assessments and interpret ABGs to guide patient respiratory and metabolic care
- Respond quickly and effectively as part of rapid response/code teams to emergent patient events
- Chart thoroughly and accurately in Epic to ensure continuity of care and clear communication
- Follow infection prevention protocols and fall-prevention strategies to protect vulnerable oncology patients
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (PT, respiratory, pharmacy, social work, radiology) to coordinate holistic care
- Float to equivalent or lower-acuity units as needed while maintaining safe patient ratios and care standards
- Educate patients and families about procedures, lines/tubes, and safety plans in an empathetic, clear manner
Qualifications
- Current RN license (eligible to practice in Ohio) — agency RN role expectations apply
- Minimum 2 years of clinical nursing experience; oncology experience preferred but not required
- High-acuity PCU/stepdown experience required (must meet recent experience rules: within last 3 years and at least 1 year current specialty experience for clinical pass)
- Certifications required: BCLS/BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
- Epic charting experience required
- Comfort managing telemetry patients, central and peripheral lines, chest tubes, tracheostomies, HFNC and non-invasive ventilation
- Willingness to float to other PCU/MedSurg Oncology units and work variable weekends per unit needs
- Previous travel experience is a plus but not required
Education
- Current RN licensure required (state of practice)
- Nursing diploma/ADN/BSN accepted — employer may have preferences at hire
Knowledge & Skills
- Telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation (GE telemetry familiarity)
- High-acuity PCU/stepdown nursing and med-surg telemetry skills
- IV therapy, starting/maintaining IVs, central line/PICC care and blood product administration
- Familiarity with heparin protocols, cardiac drips management (no titration in some cases), and PCA pumps
- Respiratory support skills: HFNC, BiPAP/CPAP, nasal cannula, tracheostomy care and ABG interpretation
- Chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac) and wound care experience
- Feeding tube care and port access/management
- Infection prevention, isolation precautions and fall-prevention strategies
- Strong Epic documentation and interdisciplinary communication skills
- Comfort responding on rapid response/code teams
