Roles & Responsibilities

• Prepare and assemble case carts and surgical instruments so each case runs smoothly
• Anticipate the surgeon's needs and pass instruments with precision during procedures
• Maintain aseptic technique and adhere to universal precautions throughout each case
• Participate in accurate counting of sharps, instruments, and sponges to ensure patient safety
• Assist with OR turnover, restocking supplies, and cleaning to keep the suite running
• Verify and maintain surgeon preference cards and pick lists for accurate case setup
• Prepare instruments for cleaning and ensure proper instrument handling and sterilization

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required
• BLS required and must be current
• Where applicable, registration with the State Regulatory Agency is required prior to independent scrub duties
• Preferred: Graduation from a certified surgical technology program or 2 years operating room experience
• Preferred: State surgical technologist certification (NBSTSA or NCCT) where applicable
• Experience with ENT and both adult and pediatric patients is a plus
• Ability to work calmly in high-pressure situations with good manual dexterity and attention to detail

Education

• High school diploma or GED required
• Preferred: Graduation from an accredited surgical technology program

Knowledge & Skills

• Sterile field maintenance and strict aseptic technique
• Proficient instrument handling, passing, and instrument sterilization workflows
• Case cart preparation and ensuring correct instruments and supplies
• Counting sharps, instruments, and sponges with accuracy
• OR turnover procedures and stock management
• Familiarity with surgeon preference cards and perioperative communication
