Contract Type: Travel Contract
Shift Type: Rotating shifts: 8-, 10- and 12-hour shifts (Days, Evenings, Nights); Weekends & Holidays coverage; On-call 0-3 times/month (8-hour night shifts and 24-hour weekend/holiday coverage). Specific start/end times vary by unit and schedule.

Roles & Responsibilities
- Assess and monitor patients through Phase I and Phase II post-anesthesia recovery with vigilance and clinical judgment
- Perform critical care assessments, monitor vitals and incision sites, and intervene when patient stability changes
- Administer and manage PCA pumps and IV therapies safely using unit equipment (Braun IV pumps, PCA pumps, Pyxis)
- Coordinate with anesthesia, surgical teams and multidisciplinary staff to ensure safe handoffs and continuity of care
- Provide patient- and family-centered education and support during the post-op recovery process
- Document patient status, interventions and outcomes accurately in the electronic medical record (Meditech)
- Participate in unit-based quality initiatives and maintain competency with monitors, warmers and other PACU devices
Qualifications
- Active State of Hawaii RN license required by start of assignment (candidates without must apply upon offer acceptance)
- 2+ years as a critical care RN (ER or ICU experience accepted as a substitute for PACU experience)
- Valid BLS and ACLS from the American Heart Association
- PALS (AHA) recommended and may be required for some positions
- Other specialty certifications (NIHSS, TNCC) preferred and may be required depending on assignment
- Prior experience with post-anesthesia care, Phase I/II recovery, surgical nursing, and critical care assessment
Knowledge & Skills
- Post-anesthesia care and Phase I/II recovery management
- Critical care assessment and surgical patient monitoring
- Anesthesiology fundamentals relevant to PACU practice
- Incision site assessment, temperature regulation and complication surveillance
- Experience with Meditech electronic medical records
- Proficiency with PCA pumps, Braun IV pumps, Pyxis medication systems and patient warmers
- Familiarity with SCDs, Cryocuff, Bair PAWS warmers, HP and Phillips monitors
- Strong critical thinking, rapid assessment and interdisciplinary communication skills
