Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide expert care for critically ill adult and geriatric patients in the MICU using advanced assessment and intervention skills
- Manage mechanical ventilation and advanced respiratory support, including ventilator settings, BiPAP/CPAP, HFNC, and ETT suctioning
- Deliver continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) and manage patients with chronic or acute renal failure
- Safely start and maintain IVs, manage PICC and central lines, and administer blood products per protocol
- Interpret arterial blood gases (ABGs) and titrate vasoactive and cardiac drips to support hemodynamic stability
- Administer procedural and continuous IV sedation while monitoring patient responses and safety
- Respond to cardiac events and dysrhythmias, interpreting monitors and initiating emergency interventions
- Document thoroughly in EPIC and collaborate with interdisciplinary team members including respiratory therapy, pharmacy, and rapid response teams
- Maintain infection prevention practices and appropriate isolation precautions to protect patients and staff
Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse licensure as required for assignment
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience, meeting requirements within the last 3 years and at least 1 year of current MICU or relevant specialty experience
- Travel nursing experience required; first-time travelers not accepted
- Current ACLS and BLS certifications
- NIH certification (as listed by facility) required
- Epic charting experience required
- Demonstrated ability to manage ventilators, CRRT, arterial and central lines, and titrate complex drips
- Ability to work a 1:2 patient ratio and function in a fast-paced, high-acuity setting
Knowledge & Skills
- Advanced ventilator management and care of mechanically ventilated patients
- CRRT operation and renal failure management
- Arterial line and central line care including PICC management
- ABG interpretation and titration of vasoactive and cardiac drips
- Cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and emergency response
- Procedural sedation and continuous IV sedation monitoring
- Infection prevention, isolation precautions and safe blood product administration
- Competent IV therapy skills including starting and maintaining IVs and accessing ports
- Proficiency with EPIC electronic charting and documentation workflows
