Roles & Responsibilities
- Implement components of patient care and carry out treatment plans designed by the PT
- Obtain, record, and analyze data related to treatments to support clinical decision-making
- Collaborate closely with the physical therapist to modify care plans as patient needs change
- Assist patients across the lifespan—from newborns to end-of-life care—with hands-on therapy
- Provide clear, compassionate education to patients and families about mobility and home safety
- Document interventions promptly and accurately to maintain continuity of care
- Maintain a safe therapy environment and ensure equipment is clean and functional
- Communicate effectively with nursing and interdisciplinary teams to promote holistic care
Qualifications
- Active PTA license (Missouri required; compact licenses accepted)
- Minimum 1 year of PTA experience (LTC or SNF experience required/preferred)
- BLS (AHA) certification active at time of start
- Certifications must be through AHA and active when assignment begins
- Profile-ready resume and skills checklist within the past year
- 0-1 reference available at time of submission per profile requirements
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong hands-on patient care and treatment implementation skills
- Proficient in data collection and documenting treatment outcomes
- Experience working in long-term care or skilled nursing environments
- Ability to collaborate with PTs and interdisciplinary teams
- Good clinical reasoning for modifying care plans when needed
- Competence in safe transfers, gait training, and mobility assistance
- Clear communication and patient/family education skills
- Time management and the ability to handle an active caseload
