Roles & Responsibilities
- Assess and triage patients quickly and accurately in a high-acuity Level I Trauma ER
- Administer and manage IV drips and emergent medications safely and according to protocols
- Interpret telemetry/ECG strips and act promptly on abnormal findings
- Collaborate with ED physicians, mid-levels, and interdisciplinary teams to deliver rapid, coordinated care
- Provide stroke assessment and TPA support for timely stroke interventions
- Document thoroughly and efficiently in EPIC to maintain continuity of care
- Support patient and family education, ensuring understanding and compassionate bedside care
- Participate in unit orientation, pass skills validation, and maintain competency in required certifications
Qualifications
- Active RN license (eligible to practice in Nebraska) and ability to submit license for verification
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience (emergency nursing experience highly preferred)
- Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NIHSS certifications required; NRP preferred
- Valid driver’s license required at submittal (used to confirm radius rule eligibility)
- Willingness to complete onboarding: 1 week of unit orientation plus designated shadow shifts
- Ability to pass an open-book skills exam during orientation with a 90% score
- Must not be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any CommonSpirit facility (including CHI or Dignity)
- Adherence to facility policies (for example, artificial nails are prohibited in patient care areas)
Education
- Active RN license required
- Associate or Bachelor of Science in Nursing accepted (BSN not required)
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong emergency nursing assessment and triage skills
- Proficient in IV drip management and common ER infusions
- Telemetry/ECG interpretation and cardiac monitoring experience
- Experience with EPIC charting and electronic documentation
- Comfort working in fast-paced, high-acuity trauma and stroke environments
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and critical thinking under pressure
- Ability to float between units and adapt to varying workflows
