Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and triage patients quickly and accurately in a high-acuity Level I Trauma ER
• Administer and manage IV drips and emergent medications safely and according to protocols
• Interpret telemetry/ECG strips and act promptly on abnormal findings
• Collaborate with ED physicians, mid-levels, and interdisciplinary teams to deliver rapid, coordinated care
• Provide stroke assessment and TPA support for timely stroke interventions
• Document thoroughly and efficiently in EPIC to maintain continuity of care
• Support patient and family education, ensuring understanding and compassionate bedside care
• Participate in unit orientation, pass skills validation, and maintain competency in required certifications

Qualifications

• Active RN license (eligible to practice in Nebraska) and ability to submit license for verification
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience (emergency nursing experience highly preferred)
• Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NIHSS certifications required; NRP preferred
• Valid driver’s license required at submittal (used to confirm radius rule eligibility)
• Willingness to complete onboarding: 1 week of unit orientation plus designated shadow shifts
• Ability to pass an open-book skills exam during orientation with a 90% score
• Must not be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any CommonSpirit facility (including CHI or Dignity)
• Adherence to facility policies (for example, artificial nails are prohibited in patient care areas)

Education

• Active RN license required
• Associate or Bachelor of Science in Nursing accepted (BSN not required)

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong emergency nursing assessment and triage skills
• Proficient in IV drip management and common ER infusions
• Telemetry/ECG interpretation and cardiac monitoring experience
• Experience with EPIC charting and electronic documentation
• Comfort working in fast-paced, high-acuity trauma and stroke environments
• Excellent communication, teamwork, and critical thinking under pressure
• Ability to float between units and adapt to varying workflows
