Roles & Responsibilities
- Prepare patients and procedure rooms for diagnostic and interventional cardiac and peripheral procedures
- Assist the RN and physician with catheter placement, fluoroscopy operation, and angiographic imaging
- Ensure accurate documentation and consent verification prior to procedure start
- Operate and troubleshoot x-ray/fluoroscopy equipment safely and independently
- Monitor patients during procedures and obtain hemostasis following vascular access
- Maintain radiation safety compliance for patients and staff throughout procedures
- Document all procedures in the MacLab system and maintain precise procedural records
- Turn over procedure rooms promptly following infection control protocols
- Administer intra-coronary medications per unit and hospital policy when appropriate
- Participate in continuing education, unit competencies, and seek specialty certification (RCIS)
Qualifications
- Associate degree in Radiologic Sciences or Cardiovascular Technology (required); Bachelor’s degree in Radiologic or Cardiovascular Technology preferred
- RCIS required if a Cardiovascular Technology graduate; ARRT (RT) required if a Radiologic Technologist graduate (timelines provided to obtain if not already held)
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) required (with time provided to obtain if needed)
- Eighteen months of diagnostic radiology experience OR completion of an accredited radiologic/cardiovascular program with program director and preceptor recommendations
- Preferred: 2 years’ experience in the Cardiac Cath Lab performing diagnostic, interventional, or electrophysiology procedures
- Comfortable using MacLab documentation system and fluoroscopy/x-ray equipment
- Strong commitment to infection control, radiation safety, and team-based patient care
Education
- Required: Associate Degree in Radiologic Sciences or graduation from an accredited Cardiovascular Technology program
- Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in Radiologic Technology or Cardiovascular Technology
Knowledge & Skills
- Patient preparation, monitoring, and documentation during invasive procedures
- Proficiency with fluoroscopy and x-ray equipment and radiation safety practices
- Vascular access techniques and hemostasis management
- Familiarity with MacLab system for procedure documentation
- Infection control and sterile procedure/room turnover
- Experience with catheter placement, coronary and peripheral angiography, and intra-coronary medication administration
- Desired: electrophysiology and interventional lab experience
