Roles & Responsibilities
- Audit provider medical records to validate ICD-10 and CPT code accuracy and ensure documentation supports coding decisions
- Compile clear audit reports with analysis of findings and maintain audit logs for continuous improvement
- Communicate constructively with physicians and midlevel providers to validate observations and provide targeted education
- Design and implement documentation support tools in collaboration with the Revenue Cycle Manager
- Develop and deliver both formal and informal education plans for providers, coders, and charge entry staff
- Train and onboard new revenue cycle team members on coding and documentation guidelines
- Support coding operations by performing coding procedures as needed and assisting with performance evaluations
Qualifications
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC) — required
- Minimum five (5) years of combined inpatient/outpatient coding and auditing experience
- Experience coding professional claims in a medical office–based setting
- Proven experience interacting with physicians to provide feedback and education
- Comfort working onsite and collaborating closely with revenue cycle teams
- Strong audit reporting and audit log maintenance experience
- Experience in multi-specialty group practice settings preferred
Education
- Associate Degree in a related field (required)
- Bachelor's Degree in a related field (preferred)
Knowledge & Skills
- ICD-10 and CPT coding expertise
- Medical record auditing and quality review techniques
- Provider education and effective physician communication
- Revenue cycle knowledge and charge entry awareness
- Ability to compile audit analyses and present findings clearly
- Familiarity with maintaining audit lodges and audit documentation
