Roles & Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive echocardiogram studies (Transthoracic 2-D, M-Mode, Color-flow Doppler) accurately and efficiently
- Conduct Transesophageal, exercise stress, and pharmacological echocardiography when ordered
- Execute other cardiac diagnostic tests including EKGs, Holter prep/monitoring/analysis, and cardiac stress testing
- Operate and troubleshoot echocardiography and cardiac diagnostic equipment to capture the best images and data
- Assess hospital information systems for correct scheduling, processing and documentation of studies
- Implement infection control practices, aseptic technique, and equipment disinfection to protect patients and staff
- Provide age-specific patient care across the lifespan, including neonatal and pediatric populations
- Precept and mentor students from contracted colleges and universities, offering clinical guidance and constructive feedback
- Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary teams to contribute meaningful diagnostic information
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
- Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) credential required
- Successful completion of an echocardiography certification program and/or 2 years hands-on echocardiography experience required
- Cardiovascular Sonography certificate preferred
- Preferred: extensive hospital-based echocardiography experience, including pediatric and neonatal echocardiography
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with clinical teams
Education
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Cardiovascular Sonography certificate preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Echocardiography techniques including Transthoracic (2D), M-Mode, and Color-flow Doppler
- Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE) and stress echocardiography (exercise and pharmacological)
- EKG acquisition and Holter monitoring, preparation and analysis
- Cardiac stress testing procedures and safety protocols
- Operation and maintenance of echocardiographs, cardiac stress systems, electrocardiographs and Holter monitors
- Familiarity with hospital information systems for scheduling, processing and charging
- Infection control, aseptic technique, and equipment disinfection best practices
- Clinical instruction and preceptorship skills for student training
- Ability to provide compassionate, age-specific care for neonatal, pediatric, and adult patients
