Roles & Responsibilities

• Assist surgeons as the first assist in a variety of procedures including orthopedics, neurosurgery/spine, robotics, general, plastics and urology
• Operate and support robotic systems and specialty OR equipment during cases
• Maintain sterile technique and ensure patient safety throughout the perioperative process
• Collaborate with the RN, SA and surgical tech teams to coordinate efficient room turnover and patient flow
• Document care and case details accurately in the Meditech EMR
• Participate in call rotation and provide reliable coverage for weekday nights and weekends when scheduled
• Contribute to a positive team environment and help mentor other perioperative staff when appropriate

Qualifications

• Virginia state license required
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or OR Technician credential (CST/ORT) preferred
• Experience as a surgical first assist or strong operative first-assist skills
• Robotic experience and orthopedic experience strongly preferred (must-haves listed in hiring profile)
• Neuro/spine case experience preferred
• Comfort with call rotation (average 2 call shifts/week)
• Proven ability to document in Meditech EMR or willingness to learn

Education

• CST (Certified Surgical Technologist) or equivalent OR tech certification; surgical first assist training/credential preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Hands-on knowledge of OR instrumentation, sterile field management, and patient positioning
• Experience with robotic systems and perioperative robotics workflow
• Familiarity with orthopedic and neurosurgical procedures and equipment
• Strong teamwork, communication and situational awareness in fast-paced OR settings
• Ability to use Meditech EMR for charting and case documentation
• Adaptability to staffing patterns including day shifts, evening taper, and on-call responsibilities
