Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide expert perioperative nursing care in CVOR and related operating rooms, ensuring patient safety during complex cardiac and vascular procedures
- Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and the perioperative team to coordinate case flow and deliver outstanding outcomes
- Perform focused assessments and implement interventions for patients undergoing cardiac, thoracic, vascular, and transplant surgeries
- Maintain accurate Epic charting and documentation to ensure regulatory compliance and clear team communication
- Respond to codes and emergency situations, demonstrating strong critical thinking and emergency management skills
- Prepare, operate, and troubleshoot specialized cardiovascular equipment and assist with device management such as LVAD and IABP
- Participate in unit-based quality improvement and patient safety initiatives to continuously raise the standard of care
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years overall OR experience, with at least 2 years dedicated cardiac and vascular experience (hard stop)
- Minimum 1 year CVOR experience
- Minimum 1 year experience working in a Level I Trauma facility
- Current BLS certification (required)
- EPIC charting experience (required)
- ACLS and NIHSS preferred
- Current RN licensure appropriate for Ohio (ensure active and in good standing)
- Flu vaccination required per facility policy (medical exemptions only); COVID-19 vaccination not required by facility guideline
Knowledge & Skills
- Perioperative skills in General OR, CVOR, Thoracic, Vascular, and Transplant cases
- Procedural familiarity: TAVR, CABG, LVAD, IABP, EVAR/TEVAR, carotid procedures, MAZE, mitral valve work
- Endovascular and open vascular techniques including EVAR, TEVAR, carotid endarterectomy and stenting, atherectomy
- Robotic-assisted surgery exposure (Da Vinci Si, SP, Xi) and VATS/Thoracotomy experience
- Proficiency with Epic charting and electronic documentation workflow
- Clinical competencies: administration of blood products, infection control, wound management, universal protocol/time-out
- Emergency management skills including code response, malignant hyperthermia protocols, and trauma-level readiness
- Familiarity with CVOR instrumentation and equipment such as electrosurgical units and fiber optic light sources
