Roles & Responsibilities
- Maintain efficient clinic flow for patients and providers so visits run smoothly
- Assist providers with patient examinations, treatments and clinic procedures
- Perform patient assessments and document findings accurately in the medical record
- Collect and prepare specimens per clinic protocols
- Administer medications as ordered by the provider, following safety checks
- Provide professional phone triage and telephone communication with patients
- Support patient-centered care with excellent interpersonal and customer-focused skills
- Collaborate with the care team to prioritize tasks and work effectively under pressure
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited RN program or LPN program
- Current Iowa nursing license (RN or LPN) required
- Current American Heart Association (AHA) Heart Code BLS — must be obtained within 3 months of hire if not already current
- 3 years clinical experience in acute or ambulatory care preferred
- Experience with acute care, ambulatory care, home health (cardiac/diabetic), ER or MD office triage is a plus
- Comfortable multitasking — think talking, typing, and problem-solving at once
- Strong customer-service mindset and the ability to work well on a team
- Willingness to learn clinic-specific procedures and maintain excellent documentation
Education
- Graduate of an accredited RN or LPN program
Knowledge & Skills
- Patient assessment and clinical documentation
- Medication administration and specimen collection
- Telephone triage and professional phone communication
- Clinic flow management and assisting providers during exams/procedures
- Basic PC skills and familiarity with Windows operating systems
- Ability to prioritize, stay organized, and work independently when needed
- Familiarity with adult and pediatric patient needs in an ambulatory setting
