Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate post-operative care to orthopedic (hip, knee, spine) and med-surg patients, ensuring safe recovery and excellent outcomes
• Perform bedside shift report and maintain clear, patient-centered communication during handoffs
• Conduct safety rounding (1 hour day, 2 hours night) and proactively address patient needs to improve experience
• Document care accurately and timely using Meditech to support clinical continuity
• Use AIDET for all patient interactions and build meaningful connections with patients and families
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members and float to like med-surg units as needed
• Maintain unit standards, follow hospital policies, and support the TJC-certified Hip and Knee program

Qualifications

• Active RN license in the state of practice
• Minimum 2 years of experience caring for post-operative or med-surg patients
• BLS certification required
• Experience with orthopedic postoperative care preferred
• Meditech experience preferred
• Positive attitude, strong teamwork skills, and ability to float to like units
• Willingness to work 12-hour night shifts and cover every other weekend

Education

• Active RN license

Knowledge & Skills

• Post-operative patient care and med-surg nursing best practices
• Orthopedic postoperative care for hip, knee and spine patients
• Proficiency with Meditech electronic documentation
• Bedside shift report techniques and patient safety rounding
• Patient communication using AIDET and strong bedside manner
• Familiarity with general nursing equipment used in orthopedic care
• Ability to manage patient ratios typical to med-surg units and prioritize care effectively
• Adaptability to rotating schedules and floating to similar units
