Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and monitor patients on the Women’s Health Med/Surg unit, delivering compassionate, evidence-based nursing care
• Perform and assist with unit-specific procedures such as bladder challenges and vaginal packing with confidence and attention to detail
• Document patient care accurately in Meditech to ensure continuity and safety
• Coordinate care with physicians, techs and ancillary teams to keep patient flow smooth and efficient
• Lead bedside shift reports and hourly safety rounds to enhance patient experience and safety
• Educate patients and families about conditions, procedures and discharge planning to support recovery
• Adapt to floating and unit needs as required while maintaining high standards of care

Qualifications

• Current RN license — must be able to practice in Virginia (compact license may apply)
• Minimum 2 years of clinical nursing experience with a Medical/Surgical background
• Experience or comfort working in Women’s Health / GYN settings and performing unit procedures (bladder challenges, vaginal packing)
• Proficiency with Meditech documentation system
• Comfort using iMobile (unit uses iMobile phones for staff and physician communication)
• Able to work rotating schedules including required weekend coverage and to float as needed

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong assessment and clinical judgment skills appropriate to Med/Surg and GYN patients
• Clear, compassionate communication with patients, families and the care team
• Solid Meditech documentation and electronic charting skills
• Ability to manage multiple patients with a 5-6:1 ratio and prioritize effectively
• Teamwork-focused approach and willingness to support unit staffing needs
• Commitment to patient experience practices such as bedside shift report and hourly safety rounds
