Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide safe, compassionate post-operative orthopedic and med-surg nursing care to adult patients
• Perform thorough assessments and document care accurately using Meditech
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized care plans
• Deliver bedside shift report and conduct safety rounding per unit standards
• Use AIDET and strong communication skills to educate patients and their families and keep them informed
• Prioritize patient experience and treat patients with courtesy, respect, and empathy
• Assist with mobility, pain management, and post-op protocols for hip, knee, spine, and other orthopedic procedures
• Support unit staffing by floating to like med-surg areas as needed

Qualifications

• Current RN license (eligible to practice in Virginia)
• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience (Med-Surg and/or post-operative orthopedic experience preferred)
• BLS certification required
• Comfortable with 12-hour night shifts and every-other-weekend rotation
• Positive attitude, strong teamwork, and excellent patient communication skills
• Experience with Meditech preferred but not required

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Med-Surg nursing fundamentals with emphasis on post-operative orthopedic care
• Familiarity with post-op protocols for hip, knee, and spine patients
• Accurate clinical documentation (Meditech experience is a plus)
• Strong patient education and bedside manner using AIDET principles
• Ability to perform safety rounding and bedside shift report consistently
• Basic use of standard nursing equipment for orthopedic patients
• Adaptability to float within like med-surg units and work collaboratively
