Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, evidence-based nursing care to medical-surgical patients
• Assess patient condition, monitor vital signs, and respond to changes promptly
• Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately
• Coordinate with interdisciplinary teams to create and update individualized care plans
• Educate patients and families about diagnoses, treatments, and discharge planning
• Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses in the medical record
• Advocate for patient safety and quality of care on every shift

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Virginia or ability to obtain promptly
• Minimum 2 years of medical-surgical nursing experience
• Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required; ACLS or other certifications preferred when applicable
• Experience with electronic medical records and standard Med-Surg equipment
• Strong clinical assessment skills and the ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent communication skills and a team-oriented attitude

Education

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN)
• BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Solid knowledge of medical-surgical nursing principles and best practices
• Proficiency in medication administration and IV therapy
• Familiarity with patient monitoring systems and documentation standards
• Ability to perform thorough head-to-toe assessments and triage effectively
• Skilled at patient and family education with clear, compassionate communication
• Time management and delegation skills to support safe patient loads
