Contract Type: Travel Contract

Shift Type: Rotating 12-hour shifts (both day and night). Day shift: 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM. Night shift: 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM. Typically 3 twelve-hour shifts per week with every-third-weekend coverage; schedule includes both day and night rotations and some weekend work.

Hours per Week: 36

Candidate Pay Rate: $55 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, patient-centered oncology nursing care on a 25-bed Oncology Care Unit
• Perform patient assessments and monitor responses to treatment, intervening when needed
• Access and manage IV/portacath lines safely or learn the procedure with support
• Administer medications and follow oncology-specific protocols with attention to detail
• Document care thoroughly in Meditech to ensure accurate, real-time patient records
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to coordinate safe, effective care and transitions
• Maintain CPR certification and follow hospital safety and infection-control policies
• Support unit initiatives related to new equipment and workflows in a newly renovated unit

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse license (eligible to practice in Virginia)
• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience; oncology experience preferred
• Current BLS/CPR certification required
• Experience with IV/portacath access or willingness to learn advanced port access skills
• Familiarity with Meditech or similar electronic documentation systems
• Strong assessment, communication, and teamwork skills

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Oncology nursing principles and patient-centered cancer care
• IV/portacath access and IV therapy techniques
• Patient assessment, monitoring, and clinical judgment
• Meditech documentation and electronic charting best practices
• Ability to manage patient ratios typical to the unit (approximately 1:4 to 1:5)
• Comfort working with updated IV pumps, vital sign equipment, and modern unit systems
• Clear communication with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams
