Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and monitor cardiac stepdown patients, performing frequent vital signs and rhythm interpretation
• Interpret cardiac monitors and act promptly on arrhythmias and telemetry changes
• Administer medications safely, including narcotics and cardiac drips per unit protocols
• Manage complex lines and devices such as central lines, chest tubes, pacer wires and drains
• Provide compassionate, evidence-based care for post-op cardiac patients (CABG, valve work, TAVR, etc.)
• Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to develop and execute individualized patient care plans
• Document thorough assessments and interventions in the Meditech EMR, keeping charts accurate and current
• Educate patients and families about condition, plan of care and discharge needs

Qualifications

• Active RN license in Virginia (or Compact RN if applicable) — required before start
• Minimum 2 years of clinical nursing experience (PCU/stepdown or telemetry strongly preferred)
• BLS and ACLS certifications — required
• Comfortable reading cardiac monitors and performing rhythm interpretation
• Ability to administer narcotics and manage cardiac drips per unit protocols
• Experience with telemetry, med-surg, or stepdown settings; familiarity with Meditech EMR is a plus
• Team player with strong critical thinking and compassionate bedside manner

Knowledge & Skills

• Telemetry and rhythm interpretation on a frequent (q4h) basis
• Knowledge of cardiac procedures and post-op care (CABG, TAVR, valve surgeries, Afib management)
• Proficiency with cardiac drips: Cardizem, amiodarone, heparin, nitro and similar infusions
• Skilled in care of central lines, PCA, Foley, chest tubes, pacer wires and drains
• Strong patient assessment and triage skills for acuity escalation
• Comfortable using Meditech EMR and documenting timely, precise notes
• Excellent communication, teamwork and critical-thinking abilities
