Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide skilled occupational therapy interventions under the supervision of an OTR to help patients regain independence
- Deliver individualized therapeutic activities and adaptive techniques based on treatment plans
- Document patient progress accurately and timely, ensuring clear communication with the interdisciplinary team
- Educate patients and caregivers on home programs, safety strategies, and adaptive equipment
- Collaborate with nurses, therapists, and physicians to support coordinated, patient-centered care
- Assist with activity analysis, adaptive equipment recommendations, and environmental modifications
- Maintain compliance with facility policies, safety standards, and infection control practices
Qualifications
- Current COTA (Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant) credential in good standing
- Active state licensure/registration as required by Massachusetts (or eligible for same)
- Experience working in a rehabilitation or skilled nursing setting preferred
- Strong clinical reasoning and hands-on therapeutic skills
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) / CPR certification or willingness to obtain
- Clear background check and up-to-date immunizations as required by the facility
Education
- Associate degree in Occupational Therapy Assistant or related field (required)
- Additional certifications or continuing education in rehab specialties are a plus
Knowledge & Skills
- Solid understanding of occupational therapy principles and adaptive techniques
- Proficient in patient assessment, documentation, and outcome-based treatment planning
- Comfortable working with adults in post-acute, rehab, or long-term care settings
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills — you’ll coordinate care daily
- Able to prioritize caseload and manage time efficiently
- Compassionate, patient-focused approach with strong interpersonal skills
