Roles & Responsibilities
- Deliver skilled therapeutic interventions under the supervising PT to help patients regain mobility and independence
- Assist with therapeutic exercise, gait training, transfers, and use of adaptive equipment
- Document patient progress clearly and promptly in the facility’s EMR to support continuity of care
- Collaborate with nurses, occupational therapists, and other team members to create holistic care plans
- Educate patients and caregivers on home exercise programs and safety strategies for optimal recovery
- Follow infection control, safety protocols, and facility policies to ensure patient and staff well-being
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to quality improvement efforts
Qualifications
- Associated Degree from an accredited PTA program or completion of an approved PTA program
- Licensed or certified as a Physical Therapist Assistant in Massachusetts, or eligibility to obtain state credentials promptly
- BLS/CPR certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire)
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced rehab/contract environment and supporting varied patient needs
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset; prior experience in inpatient/rehab settings is a plus
Education
- Associate Degree in Physical Therapist Assistant (or graduation from an accredited PTA program)
Knowledge & Skills
- Proficiency with common PTA interventions: therapeutic exercise, manual techniques, gait training, and balance work
- Skilled in safe patient handling, transfers, and use of assistive devices
- Competent documentation skills and ability to use electronic medical records
- Ability to assess patient response and report changes to the supervising PT
- Excellent interpersonal skills for patient education and team collaboration
