Roles & Responsibilities
- Assess speech, language, cognition-communication, and swallowing function using evidence-based tools
- Develop individualized treatment plans that target meaningful functional outcomes
- Deliver skilled therapy and adapt interventions to each patient’s goals and progress
- Collaborate with nurses, therapists, physicians, and families to coordinate comprehensive care
- Document assessments, goals, and progress in the medical record accurately and timely
- Provide family and caregiver education to support carryover and safe discharge planning
- Participate in team meetings and contribute clinical expertise to optimize patient outcomes
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology (required)
- Current or eligible for Virginia state SLP license
- ASHA CCC-SLP preferred
- Experience in inpatient rehabilitation or post-acute care preferred
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team
- Active professional liability insurance or ability to obtain if required, and up-to-date immunizations/background checks as facility policy requires
Education
- Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology
Knowledge & Skills
- Proficient in standardized and functional assessment techniques for speech, language, cognition, and swallowing
- Skilled in developing evidence-based treatment plans and measurable goals
- Comfortable with clinical documentation and electronic medical records
- Ability to train and educate families and caregivers effectively
- Strong organizational and time-management skills to manage caseload and prioritize care
