Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, patient-centered nursing care to individuals in the RHU and medical unit
- Administer medications and treatments accurately and in line with facility protocols
- Perform ongoing assessments and monitor patient status, escalating concerns promptly
- Document nursing care, observations, and patient responses clearly and professionally
- Collaborate with custody staff and interdisciplinary clinical teams to ensure safety and continuity of care
- Support the orientation and training process during the initial assignment period
Qualifications
- Active Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) credential (California license preferred/required)
- Comfortable working in a correctional setting and the Restrictive Housing Unit (RHU)
- Willingness to work holidays as required by the facility schedule
- Ability to participate in a two-week orientation prior to independent assignment
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with security and clinical teams
Education
- Vocational Nursing diploma or certificate (completion of an approved LVN program)
Knowledge & Skills
- Medication administration and basic clinical nursing procedures
- Patient assessment and monitoring
- Accurate clinical documentation and charting
- Infection control practices and adherence to facility safety protocols
- De-escalation techniques and awareness of correctional environment dynamics
- Team collaboration and clear communication with multi-disciplinary staff
