Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide vigilant direct observation and therapeutic support to individuals in a correctional mental health setting
- Assist with implementation of individualized care plans and support behavioral interventions
- Perform accurate, timely documentation of observations, incidents, and interventions
- Use evidence-based de-escalation and crisis-intervention techniques to maintain safety
- Collaborate with nursing, mental health clinicians, and custody staff to ensure continuity of care
- Participate in shift handoffs, unit briefings, and mandatory trainings during orientation and assignment
Qualifications
- Current Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT) credential required
- California LPT licensure preferred or ability to obtain state authorization as required
- Comfort working in a correctional healthcare environment and following facility policies
- Ability to work the posted schedule (Saturday through Wednesday, 1:00 PM - 9:30 PM)
- Willingness to complete a two-week orientation and follow daily confirmation/per diem procedures
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of a Psychiatric Technician/LPT training program or equivalent clinical training
- Current basic life support (BLS) or CPR certification as required by employer
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong observational skills and attention to behavioral detail
- Proficiency in crisis intervention and verbal de-escalation techniques
- Clear, concise clinical documentation and reporting
- Effective communication and teamwork across multidisciplinary teams
- Knowledge of basic psychotropic medication observation and safety practices
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and prioritize patient/resident safety
